Teak - the king of wood outdoor furniture.
Teak wood patio furniture is the perfect choice for outdoor furniture, because one set should last you a life time
with the proper care and attention. Teak is known for being an extremely weather resistant type of wood. Teak wood
patio furniture is quickly becoming more and more popular every day. There are thousands of uses for teak including
outdoor furniture, tables, and shipbuilding. It is a top choice for commercial outdoor furniture. Teak patio
furniture is used in some of the most celebrated gardens and patios. It is also prized for use in indoor teak
furniture as well, like for a sunroom or screened in porch.
For centuries teak wood has been recognized for its quality, durability, and beauty. Teak is a very hard,
densely grained wood with a high oil content. The unique combination of these characteristics makes teak wood
naturally resistant to moisture, rot, warping, shrinking, splintering, insects, and fungus. It is considered the
ideal wood for wood outdoor furniture.
Teak wood (Tectona grandis), a durable hardwood, performs beautifully in any climate. Teak requires no
preservatives or treatment of any kind to protect it from the elements. If left outside without oil, the natural
teak will gradually turn a light silver-gray. This process could take six to nine months, depending upon your
geographic location. This graying is only on the surface and can be removed with soapy water and a poly-bristle
brush. To retain its original color, you may treat it with a commercial teak stain or varnish. If you choose to
keep your teak furniture indoors, it need only be wiped with a clean cloth as you would dust any furniture.
